I started playing drums at the age of three banging on pots and pans in the kitchen as well as messing around on my godparents drum set. My love for the drums eventually led me to my first drum set at the age of eight. I started playing Latin beats and rhythms with my uncles band where I played till the age of eleven. After I felt I had mastered that particular style of drumming within that genre, I didn't know where to take my music so I ended up giving up on drums. It wasn't until my freshmen year in high school that I got introduced to the world  of metal.

I quickly realized that metal music was always changing and evolving and that I could always learn something new and different. This new found passion for metal is what eventually rekindled my love for drums and shortly after that I started my first band called Sculptured Wounds. In that band, I learned different techniques that I still use to this day such as a variety of blast beats like hammer blasts, bomb blasts, gravity blast, and also using fast double bass. These techniques I picked up helped progress SW from a nu metal band into a death metal machine. Sculptured Wounds was going strong up until 2007 when we went on hiatus. Later that year though I joined an upcoming death metal band called Fallen Figure (www.myspace.com/fallenfigure) where I continued to further my drumming skills and techniques with intense blasting and catchy energetic drumming. In 2009, after I parted ways with Fallen Figure I decided to join the brutal death metal band Euphoric Defilement which later signed a sweet record deal with Unique Leader Records. Euphoric Defilement's fast paced tempos and relentless rhythms has helped me reach my true potential in drumming.

I did session drums for Shadows Entwined (www.facebook.com/shadowsentwined) In 2010 to expand on my versatility behind the kit. I started a Youtube Channel where everyone can check out videos of myself and my bands.

Gabe Lopez Interview:

SDM: How old were you when you started playing?

Gabe: I was three when I started playing with pots and pans in the kitchen, but it wasn't until I was eight that I received my first drum set.

SDM: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Gabe:Nah, I didn't ever get into any of that haha

SDM: Who are your top 5 metal influences?

Gabe: My top 5 influences are Derek Roddy , George Kollias ,Gene Hoglan , Hannes Grossmann and last but not least Lyle Cooper

SDM: Who are some other of your favorites?

Gabe: Marco Minnemann, Nicholas Barker, Joey Jordison, Mike Mangini, and Richard Christy.

SDM: Let us know 5 CD's that are in your current rotation

Gabe: Euphoric Defilement – Ascending to the Worms, Shadows Entwined – Pathway to Infinity, The Faceless – Planetary Duality, Necrophagist- Epitaph and The Faceless – Autotheism.

SDM: What do you do to warm up before a show?

Gabe: I always set up my snare and kick with the drum bags still on them so that way I don't get any rebound on them. Then I'll jam on them for like 15 to 20 minutes before we go on, and  then I always stretch prior to doing that.

SDM: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have affected your playing?

Gabe: I don't know how to read music and I believe it has affected the way I look and understand music. I have recently decided to receive lessons in learning how to read music so I can advance my musical abilities.

SDM: Can you tell us about the gear you use?

Gabe: I currently use Pearl Drums and pedals, Sabian cymbals, Evan heads and Vic Firth drum sticks.

SDM: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

Gabe: Never give up and keep practicing. Stay opened minded and take criticism as advice, not an insult.

SDM: Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?

Gabe: The best live performance I've ever seen has to be when I saw Iced Earth at The Wiltern. The show was great and they sounded exactly… I mean EXACTLY like the album, which is something not a lot of bands can pull off these days.

SDM: Aside from drumming, what else do you like to do?

Gabe: I like spending time with my son, playing sports, watching sports, listening to music, hanging out with my friends, and playing video games.
