Shane Cyrus is a Bluefield, West Virginia based drummer. Self-taught at the age of 13, he entered a local band at 14 in 2009. For the next five years, he continued to better his skills and began learning how to record and produce his drums. By the beginning of 2014, he along with his bandmates created the band now known as Curses. After several national tours and producing a large amount of buzz over the years, Curses was signed to Sharptone Records in 2020. They are set to release their album Chapter II: Bloom on August 7th as a follow up to Chapter I: Introspect.
Shane was originally inspired by and began practicing to classic rock/metal bands like Led Zeppelin and Metallica. Expanding from those bands helped evolve his musical interests, and branch out to multiple styles of drumming. His music taste today is vast and ranges from all forms of metal and progressive rock to hip-hop and indie. He draws inspiration from all the sounds around him as well as whatever music he’s currently listening to. He claims there is “a beat to everything, you just have to listen and find it”. He uses this idea when writing drums.
This is his drum play-through for the song “Wu Wei” from their new album.

The Princeton, West Virginia quintet—Brando Casto [vocals], Eli Fry [vocals], Davey Nicewander [guitar], Michael Olivares [bass, vocals], and Shane Cyrus [drums] arrived on the scene in 2017 with the vicious, roaring debut Chapter I: Introspect, that featured the massive, fan-favorite singles “The Abandoned” and “Fortune Collapse” (Feat. PERIPHERY frontman Spencer Sotelo). Following a year of solid touring and festival appearances, the band returned to the studio in late 2019/early 2020 to record their heavily anticipated Chapter II: Bloom. Now armed with seasoned experience, new-found depth and maturity, and a refined skillset, CURSES enter the next phase of their story with one of metalcore’s most promising records of 2020.
