Jesse Schobel – Cast The Stone – A Plague Of Light – Exclusive Drum Videos Part II

Check out Jesse Schobel from Cast The Stone (Misery Index, Scour, ex-Cattle Decapitation) jam through “A Plague of Light” from “Empyrean Atrophy” out Aug. 31 on Agonia Records. That is followed by a short video on Jesse’s approach to the drumming style he uses in Cast The Stone and on the new single.

Jesse Schobel bought his first drum set from the local classified ads when he was 9 years old, having saved enough of his own money to purchase it.  He instantly gravitated to playing fast and loud, with a particular appreciation for the groove concept.  Entirely self-taught, Jesse started playing in bands in the sixth grade, technically before he even had his first kit as would stack books at different heights and play them with unsharpened NFL pencils. His observation of other drummers was crucial to his development, watching them with acute focus at live concerts attended with his parents and also by the copious amounts of MTV he would soak up daily.  From these experiences he learned different ways to set up his kit, trying different cymbals and different arrangements.  Always wanting “more stuff to hit”, Jesse eventually decided that more is more fun, and opted for the double bass-with-a-bunch-of-toms approach.  Inevitably, Jesse also became a bit of a “gear nerd” and has amassed 4 acoustic drum sets and a Roland TD-9 electric kit, an array of snare drums and a few cymbals to boot. He graduated from Full Sail University with a bachelor’s degree in Audio, and since then has recorded and played on a number of recordings both locally and nationally.  Jesse has also played on tour with 4 different bands as of 2018.
