The story of BML (Bailey, Mason & Lickers) starts like this. Rochester metal paramount and bass juggernaut, Toby Bailey, a Claypool slapster with a Bootsy flair for keeping the jive alive and funky, decided it was about time to lay some new jams down on the scene. He invited the likes of fellow metal "alumni," Brian Mason and Ron Lickers to round out this groovy instrumental behemoth. Mason, a guitarist who reminds everyone just how fun shredding can be, also brings to the songs a driving jazzy/bluesy undertone. Lickers, Bonham to a "T", but with a rhythmic inventiveness that could easily place him alongside Coltrane or "Electric" Davis on any of their more abstract tracks, helps keep the party on an up-beat. Received wide-eyed by jazz, rock and metal audiences, those of you looking to shake your booty or bob your head will happily raise your drinks and cheers to BML!

SD.com:  How old were you when you started playing?

Ronnie:  13, with no drum set. I would go watch other drummers and beg them too let me play.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

 

Ronnie:  No. Too inpatient

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Ever take any lessons?

Ronnie:  I just bought basic rudiment books and taught myself

 

 

 

SD.com:  Who are your top 5 influences?

Ronnie:  John Bonham, Keith Moon, Danny Carr, Neil Peart, and Animal

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Assuming that influences doesn't mean favorites, who are your favorites?

Ronnie:  John Bonham

Ronnie:  Any Clutch, Tool, Zepplin, some Dio, Beasties, and P-funk

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Can you remember a night you think was your best playing ever? If yes, when and where?

Ronnie:  Opened for machine head in the flats in Cleveland. Sold out show, kit sounded great and i only fucked up a couple of times

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Do you have a favorite brand of drums or cymbals?

Ronnie:  No. I play whatever gets thrown in front of me. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Ronnie:  I do a mental type of visioning.

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

 

Ronnie:  Listen too everything, find what moves you and be selfish. Play stuff becouse you like it, for how it makes you feel not what other people think.

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?

Ronnie:  One that sticks out is the guy from Seven Dust just absolutely brutal and brilliant

 

 

 

 

SD.com:  If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?

Ronnie:  Play guitar, produce, write songs & play poker.
