Lars Groth Interview:

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Lars: I think i was 17 years old whwn i started play Death metal. Maybe i was 10 years or something like that when i started play at the primary and secondary school. Its only the last 5 years i really played more serious.

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Lars: Yes, i played in a very very poor school band until i was 13 years old. I think the band name was “Johannes madsens big band”, haha. On of the songs was called “Mr Jobbe” (Its was a song about a old rich man called Jobbe who wants to buy the whole world)

SD.com: Who are your top 5 influences?

Lars: There´s alot, but if i have to mention 5 i think it must be: 1.Derek Roddy 2.Steve Adler 3.Doc 4.Pete Sandoval 5.Brandon Thomas

SD.com: Assuming that influences doesn’t mean favorites, who are your favorites?

Lars: George Kollias, Steve Adler, Nicko McBrain, Derek Roddy, Ingo Schwichtenberg, Dave Lombardo, Tomme Lee, Aantar Coates, Gene Hoglan, Thomas Asklund and many more..

SD.com: Let us know 5 CD’s that are in your current rotation

Lars: 1.Hate Eternal – I monarch 2.Belphegor – Lucifer Incestus 3.Nightwish – Dark passion play 4.Dissection – Reinkaos 5.Hate Eternal – Fury and flames

SD.com: What do you do to warm up before a show?

Lars: Just play a bit on a table. Normally we gonna start with song called “Endless infernum” at every gig and in the rehearsal room too. And then it is important for me not to stress before a show. Thats a good start.

SD.com: Can you remember a night you think was your best playing ever? If yes, when and where?

Lars: Sorry, but i don´t think i ever had that thought. But my band fellows say some time that i am the only, and right guy for Crucifix in Denmark.

SD.com: Do you have a favorite brand of drums or cymbals?

Lars:Yes that must bee Anatolian cymbals

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

Lars: Slow down sometimes and just take your time in the rehearsal room.

SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?

Lars: Maybe my good old friend Reno Killerich when he played with Hate Eternal in Denmark and of cause Mike Portnoy on the Train of thought tour.

SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?

Lars: I play soccer and i would continue with that. Then, i also do some fly-fishing for trout and salmon. Sometime it would be nice to have more time to do that.
