Kid Fro Interview:

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Kid Fro: I was about 12 when my parents got me a 350 dollar peavey kit, used of course. I kept practicing pretty much every day and continually built on to the kit, I actually have a picture of me playing my first show in Bloodshoteye on that very same kit. Recently upgraded, and now using Pearl.

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Kid Fro: I’ve wanted to play for my schools jazz band for a few years now, but I never get around to going to the practices. I never really got interested into what the school I am at was playing though. IT AINT FAST ENOUGH!

SD.com: Ever take any lessons?

Kid Fro: For about the first 2 years I took lessons once a week. It was all really basic beginner shit. I plan on taking lessons again some time soon, I need to improve on my technique. But it was in those lessons where I learned how to read the music, which made me kick ass in High school music class!

SD.com: Who are your top 5 influences?

Kid Fro: These are constantly changing, but I would have to say the ones that have been there the longest are:

1. Flo Mounier
2. Thomas Haake
3. Buddy Rich
4. Mike Portnoy
5. Danny Carey

SD.com: Assuming that influences doesn’t mean favorites, who are your favorites?

Kid Fro: Right now, I’m REALLY diggin Derek Roddy. Other favorites would have to be Alex Pelletier, Chris Pennie, and Kevin Talley

SD.com: Let us know 5 CD’s that are in your current rotation

Kid Fro: The Dillinger Escape Plan – Calculating Infinity
Necrophagist – Epitaph
Cryptopsy – Whisper Supremacy
Beneath The Massacre – Evidence of Inequity
Death – Symbolic

SD.com: Can you remember a night you think was your best playing ever? If yes, when and where?

Kid Fro: I remember it clearly. August 26th, 2006 – Hamilton, Ontario w/ Threat Signal. The venue was PACKED, they wouldn’t let anymore people in. We went on 2nd last, the crowd was fucking INSANE! I couldn’t wait to start playing! We played one of the best shows we’ve played as a band, and I definately played the best I ever have in my life, and I have the crowd from that night to thank for it.

SD.com: Do you have a favorite brand of drums or cymbals?

Kid Fro: I’m a Pearl guy to be honest. I find that I can setup the kit very easily, I find that I can make any slight adjustment I want to make the kit more comfortable to play on. As far as cymbals go, I have a mixture of Sabian and Zildjian, with a Paiste in the mix. I plan on getting more Zildjians though, I really like the sound of them.

SD.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Kid Fro: I usually warm up for about 20 minutes. I’ll just practice basic rudiments and gradually speed them up, while keeping my feet rotating between 8th and 16th notes. As soon as I’m done warming up, I usually find myself (and shane) outside of the venue smoking a joint, sometimes two. If its all timed right, as soon as i walk in to setup, the band before us is taking the last bit of their gear offstage, and I bring my shit onstage.

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

Kid Fro: KEEP CHALLENGING YOURSELF!  You wont get any better playing the same stuff month after month. You have to find something to can’t play, set a time you want to know it by, then practice till you’ve lost about 80 lbs in sweat.    You’ll be skinny as hell, but hey, you’ll be able to play that song.

SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?

Kid Fro: Flo Mounier in Toronto last October. I got to watch the entire Cryptopsy set from about 8 feet behind Flo. I’ve never seen any drummer move so fast! For every song, he’d be going faster then I can ever imagine playing, then stop on a dime, perfectly with the rest of the band. If I could see any show I’ve ever been to again, it would definately be that show.

SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?

Kid Fro: Well, I’d WANT to get into the life of crime. Make some hits, sell some drugs, start some rackets. Bribe a few cops here and there, then most likely under intense pressure from the DEA and the FBI, I would probably go on Witness Protection, get the entire family pinched, and locked up for life. A few years later, I’d probably write a book about my life of crime, maybe get a movie made like “Goodfellas”

But…I’ll probably end up pickin up garbage and shoveling snow.

Оселок совсем сухой, милая, высох он.
