I started playing drums at the age of 17, but my love for the instrument started much earlier. Before I even played drums, I would always be air drumming to my favorite albums. Sepultura's "Arise" and "Beneath The Remains" were both very big albums for me, because they introduced me to the more brutal side of metal. Eventually, I grew to crave more brutality and speed in my metal, and that's why bands like Malevolent Creation and Cryptopsy became favorites of mine. Sick Drummers like Flo Mounier, Dave Culross, Derek Roddy, Gene Hoglan, and Richard Christy are the most influential to me. I someday hope to be as well known as those guys!
As far as my history with bands that I've been in… I've played in a Bronx death/thrash metal band called Rizen for about 5 years. In 2007, everyone in the band went their separate ways, and I went on to create Legionary. This time the music was even more intense, and more thought out. It took me 3 years, but i finally found a killer lineup of skilled musicians, and awesome dudes. We currently have a 2 song demo available for listening on Facebook, MySpace, and ReverbNation. I'm also very excited to announce that our first full length album will be recorded in 2011! Along with Tony Barhoum, Alonso Maguino, Tim Rocheny, and Mike Carra, Legionary is ready to take the metal world by storm!
Frank D'Erasmo Interview:
SDM: How old were you when you started playing?
Frank: 17, on a really cheap drum set. I don't even remember the brand name haha! I was just really happy that my parents allowed me to have a drum set in the house!
SDM: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?
Frank: No. I wanted to play brutal music, not play in a catholic school band haha!
SDM: Who are your top 5 metal influences?
Frank: (In no order) Malevolent Creation, Cryptopsy, Kreator, Death, and Sepultura. They all influenced me so much, in many different ways.
SDM: Who are some other of your favorites?
Frank: Hate Eternal, Hate Plow, Demolition Hammer, Exodus, Testament, Megadeth, and many more!!!
SDM: Let us know 5 CD's that are in your current rotation

SDM: What do you do to warm up before a show?
Frank: Nothing out of the ordinary. I stretch out my wrists, fingers, and feet.
SDM: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?
Frank: Yes. It has effected my playing a lot. I use the program Guitar Pro to tab out all of my music, instead of demoing it. It helps a lot!
SDM: Can you tell us about the gear you use?
Frank: I play a 5 piece Limited Edition Pearl set (22" kick, 10" and 12" rack toms, 14" floor tom, and a 14" snare). I use Sabian AAX 14" Hi-Hats, a Sabian AAX 20" Ride, a Sabian HHX 16" Crash, a Sabian HHX 16" Evolution O-Zone Crash, a Sabian B8 PRO 18" China, and a 10" Paiste Splash cymbal. For the feet, I use Tama Iron Cobra Double bass pedals.
SDM: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…
Frank: Don't settle for just being OK. Push yourself, practice a lot, and the results will come!
SDM: Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?
Frank: Cryptopsy. It's one thing hearing Flo Mounier play what he plays on the album, but it's a totally different thing to see him do it live. I was blown away.
SDM: Aside from drumming, what else do you like to do?
Frank: I'm really just a laid back dude. I like to go out drinking with the band, and with my awesome friends! Other than that, I love being a nerd. Halo and Call Of Duty deathmatch! And who doesn't like watching old school WWF DVD's?!
