I have bought a drum and i have started to jam with my cousin Tony (Ion Dissonance) playing Pink Floyd, Bush x, Nirvana, Foo Fighter and one year later we started to play Sepultura, Slayer, Pantera and many shows in my school and at the end of that year we started to play Cryptopsy, Deicide songs and we have done many others shows in school. The name of my first band was Assomption and we have try to composed songs but it doesnt work very much and the band split. 1 or 2 year later i was searching for a band and Sylvain Houde the previous singer of Kataklysm looking for a drummer but it doesnt work to much so i have started a band with the guitar player and the bass player that was playing with the project of Sylvain Houde, and Tony my cousin join the band and we have found a singer later and the name of the band was DEUTERIUM.
we have record a ep of 3 songs call Blustery Uprising and we have done many shows in montreal, and we were ready to record our first album of 9 songs of Deuterium but band split. Despised Icon looking for a drummer and i have done a audition and they chose me. 6 month later i record the 2nd albums of Despised Icon called the Healing Process. we were looking for a label and Century Media were the one. Healing Process works well so we did our first big tour in Canada with Ion Dissonance. Sunset will never charm us (healing process) was the first videoshot we have done. we have tour with Deicide, suffocation, Morbid Angel, Hatebreed, Through the eyes of the dead in the north america and now i’m on tour with Unearth, first time in Europe. i have 2 drum kit one is the Dsound that i record Deuterium, Vengeful (drum session for 5 songs) and the Healing Process and my second kit is a DW that i record the 3rd albums (the ills of modern man) coming in May 22 2007. for now i’m already working for the 4th albums. SD.com: What was it like working with Andy Sneap on the upcoming Despised Icon album?

Alex: Eeric and yannik(ex-guitarist) took a plane to england for mixing and mastering the 3rd album (the ills of modern man) with Andy Sneap, cool guy to work with. he did a great job.

 

 

SD.com: What differences are there between your road kit and studio kit?

Alex: nothing i got the same drum all the time studio or live, close to one year before i was using a Dsound drum that it kick ass sound, but the service was not great. and just before the Morbid Angel tour i got my custom DW drum that is kick ass more hehehe.

 

 

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Alex: I was 16 years old, pretty old hehe. i’m 25 now.

 

 

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Alex: No i never play with a marching band or school band. but i use that kind of marching drum corps.

 

 

SD.com: Ever take any lessons?

Alex: I think i took 1 or 2 lessons with Flo Mounier with my camera but i lost this tape 1 or 2 weeks after. i have learning by listening music and watching drummer.

 

 

SD.com: Who are your top 5 influences?

Alex: Dave Lombardo, Flo Mounier, Kevin Talley, Tony Laureno, Derek Roddy

 

 

 

 

SD.com: Assuming that influences doesn’t mean favorites, who are your favorites?

Alex: Vinnie colaiuta, Marco Minneman, Sean Reinert, Travis Barker, Dave Grohl

 

 

SD.com: What are 5 CD’s in your personal rotation?

Alex: Oh eeuuh Metallica, Thrice, Slayer, Nile, video games and movie soundtracks

 

 

SD.com: Can you remember a night you think was your best playing ever? If yes, when and where?

Alex: I think it was saturday march 24 2007 London, Mean Fiddler, i was really into it even if it missing some kick trigger (Kevin talley drumkit) it was not my kit but it was so great that day.

 

 

SD.com: Do you have a favorite brand of drums or cymbals?

Alex: I dont know by mistake i buy often the Sabian cymbals but if another compagny sound great i’ll buy it. and for now i like so much my DW sounds and my old kit Dsound was awesome too, sometimes i heard some yamaha kit drum that was sound crazy as hell.

 

 

 

 

SD.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Alex: mmmm Redbull 1 hour before i play it the only ritual with my warmup 

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

Alex: Follow the drum way you want to go and pratice a lot for being comfortable. 

SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?

Alex: Seriously Pierre Langlois was one of the best live performance i’ve seen. 

SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what else would you want to do with your life?

Alex: Making 3D for video games is my dream since i’m young.
