Symbolic – Death Tribute DVD:

This display of Chuck Schuldiner music is totally breath taking. First off, this DVD was recorded originally in 2007. The drummers on this include Symbolic’s Antoine Baril (also of Augury fame), Nick Barker (formerly of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, etc…) and Jonathan Lee (Acheron). There’s tons of songs on this one for any fan of Chuck Schuldiner, plus this DVD features performances by former Death members Scott Celendian, Shannon Hamm and Bobby Koeble.
The drumming on this DVD is simply amazing. “Baril” does a stellar job on the songs. He covers all the material played by most of the drummers in the Death history such as: Bill Andrews, Gene Hoglan, Sean Reinert, Chris Reifert and of course Richard Christy! If you’re a Death fan then look no further. This DVD is a must buy.
This concert is extremely well done and ultra professional. If you’re a Death drummer fan, this will open your eyes to the amazing drumming of all the past Death drummers. You can see and hear the entire dynamic of the drum playing and all the fancy cymbal work that was created in the band “Death” This is a live concert, so there might be a few minor errors, but it’s extremely close to the original playing. This music is extremely difficult and hard to emulate, even with original members of Death guest appearing. The crowd is amazing, showing tremendous amounts support for whats going on live at the venue in Quebec.
The guitar playing is top notch. The lead guitarist of Symbolic is amazing performing all the technical aspects of the Death guitar solos! The bass playing is very solid and spot on, along with the rhythm guitar playing by Matthew, who also does vocals which sound very reminiscent of Chuck!
I’m not going to criticize and analyze every note or minor errors like most reviewers and serious “Death” fanatics. This release was put together and played with huge hearts and that’s all that matters. True loyalty is shown to the music of Chuck Schuldiner. This release can be purchased from the band at their myspace or facebook site. Symbolic’s effort and attempt to appease Death fans around the world is a success and a more than worthy honor to Chuck and all his past members! Chuck Schuldiner would be very proud of this!
