Sick Drummer Magazine – Favorite Drumming Albums of 2022

Sick Drummer Magazine’s Favorite Drumming Albums of 2022! Our team has gone back and forth and has decided on these records. They are NOT in any particular order of most to least or least to most favorite. Just a list alphabetized by the drummer’s first name… there is no best album or drummer, just what our team enjoyed collectively.

Our team considers creativity, groove, originality, musicality, finesse, speed, technicality, and several other factors when compiling our lists. We apologize in advance to those we may not have heard… or overlooked. It’s been another crazy year. Nice to see things picking back up! Stay safe and healthy out there.

These albums were reviewed and picked by Ian Macdonald, Anton Hefele, Jeff Grindstopher, Jeanne Thomas, Mike Wyatt, Jason Blackburn, and David Culross Jr!

Let’s all show our appreciation for these outstanding performances by these drummers. We are honored and excited to have these records to listen to and learn from. Please share the links to your favorites, and if you can, purchase some records and/or merchandise from these artists. Every little bit helps.

This is the 4th year in a row Adam Jarvis and Lee Fisher have made this list. If you don’t know, now you know. That’s pretty insane. This year also features several players more than once… Adam Houmam, Adam Jarvis, Dirk Verbeuren, Jeramie Kling, and John Longstreth. Outstanding work, gentlemen!

Thanks to all these Sick Drummers for giving us such amazing works to enjoy, learn from, and share!

We posted our 2021 list a few days before Aerosol released their ‘Murmurations’ album that featured our beloved brother, Sean Reinert. A project from John Hiler — who mixed Carbon-Based Anatomy, worked on the 10th-anniversary reissue of Focus, and also mixed and co-produced Reinert and Paul Masvidal’s Aeon Spoke — started a new band, Aerosol, with Reinert and engineer Matt Brownlie (Carly Pearce, Destiny’s Child, Kesha).

When Sean unexpectedly passed on January 24, 2021, Hiler contacted Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, ex-Soilwork) and Mike Heller (Fear Factory, Malignancy) to fill in on drums on the songs Sean hadn’t recorded yet. Murmurations is dedicated to Sean’s memory, and Aerosol are donating a portion of all proceeds to The Trevor Project, a 24/7 hotline for at-risk LGBTQ youth, in Sean’s name.

This album features some of, if not the last, recordings Sean Reinert was ever part of. Rest in Peace… we love and miss you and wanted to acknowledge your work on this record here.
