Joshua “Nassaru” Ward is a drummer, composer, writer, and audio engineer from North Carolina who is best known for his involvement with both extreme metal and folk music. His current project, Xael, aims at uniting science fantasy storytelling and extreme metal. Joshua is an active educator and runs Elderverse Studio. Joshua has played in projects such as Rapheumets Well and Enthean, contributing as a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Joshua currently writes and performs with Xael along with members from The Reticent and Nile.

Xael is a conceptual sci-fi music project based out of the Carolinas. Formed in 2018, it features members from Nile and The Reticent. Xael combines elements of extreme metal with symphonic and folk music to create soundscapes of the imagination steeped in deep sci-fi lore to provide listeners with a rich story-driven experience.
