You may know drummer Gus Rios from Gruesome, or from his work as a recording engineer or even as drum-tech. Bottom line is… whatever Gus sets his mind to, he does. Gruesome has become a widely-known and well received Death Tribute band that have turned out songs and played some amazing shows in their infancy. Let’s see what he does with Blood Reign. To say we’re excited is an understatement.
From Gus Rios: “With new albums due out in 2019 from both the mighty Possessed and Exhumed, I realized I would find myself with some free time as it’s going to be a chill year for Gruesome, and so I FINALLY made a small dream of mine a reality… a proper SLAYER tribute band! I’ve been wanting to do this for years and years but just couldn’t find the right group of dudes with the dedication and drive, nor the time I guess. I’m so stoked to finally put this together with some good players including Ryan Taylor on bass/vocals (guitar/vocals for classic Florida thrashers Solstice, Atomik and Condition Critical), one of my oldest friends and guitar player in another project called Upon Infliction, Seth Ringler playing the role of KERRY, and rounded out by Glenn Conner who plays guitar with Derek Roddy in Serpents Rise. It was actually Derek that recommended Glenn and when he walked into my studio with a black Jackson soloist it was a done deal! haha!”
“This cover of “Disciple” from the ‘God Hates Us All’ album was a result of our “Reign in Blood” heavy setlist and we decided to try that song out to see how it would fit. Instead of using other guitars tuned to C sharp, I thought “what if we did this tune in the style of RIB?” We then decided to record it and I tried to mimic the production.”
