Dylan Robertson – Kingsmen – Oppressor – Exclusive Drum Play-through

Most musicians in the genre of metal tend to have picked up their instruments as a teen. That is not the case for Kingsmen’s drummer, Dylan Robertson.

Dylan grew up in a loving, working-class family, in Attleboro, MA. Eric, Dylan’s father, a talented musician himself; favored the drums. He would sit Dylan on his lap as a baby, and have Dylan hold the drumsticks and tap a little, with dad’s help. Just after he turned one, Dylan sat upon the throne and began to learn how to play.

A drum set was always in the home and Dylan was allowed and always encouraged to play. At the age of 10, Dylan began to jam with his fathers’ band. At first, Dylan felt uneasy playing with experienced musicians. But, with the encouragement of his father, he found his confidence and began to grow into the drummer he is today.

After years of teaching his son how to play, Dylan’s father, unfortunately, lost his life due to a drug abuse problem while Dylan was still in High School. A few years passed after this tremendous loss. Dylan continued to play, hoping to find some solace in music.

Knowing his talent, his mother Laurie encouraged Dylan to try out for a band. Dylan played with a few local projects from 2012-2016 until he was asked to join Kingsmen in 2017.

Kingsmen is continuing their journey with the help of Manifest GRP and Sharptone Records as they prepare to release their first full-length record in 2019. Here’s a drum and guitar play-through video for their newest song “Outsider.” Follow Kingsmen on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for tours, merchandise and new music.

This video is Dylan Robertson playing ‘Oppressor’ by the Rhode Island-based Kingsmen.

From Dylan: “Oppressor, the first Kingsmen track written and was never actually meant to go into production. But I loved the song so much I stepped up and learned it.”
