A Novelist is a progressive death metal band from Lafayette, Louisiana that was formed in 2009 by Benjamin Nugent (guitars and vocals) and Alex Babineaux (drums and percussion). They incorporate melodic technical death metal with jazz, fusion, psychedelia, and black metal to bring about an intensely haunting yet cohesive and original sound.

Their forthcoming album Portraits was produced by Jamie King, who is known for his work with such bands as Between the Buried and Me, Abiotic, Wretched, and other associated metal acts. Lyrical themes include Neurology, Physics, and Chemistry which blend organically with the music to create a heavy surreal aesthetic within a narrative framework. A Novelist is recommended for fans of Obscura, Necrophagist, Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless, and The Mars Volta.

Vancouver’s Archspire unleash an insane attack of blistering technical death metal on ‘The Lucid Collective’; their first full-length for Season of Mist. Guitars shred with fury, and vicious vocals swarm over whirlwind drum work in the band’s potent display of 21st century extremity.

More than just a collection of chops and blast beasts, ‘The Lucid Collective’s eight tracks showcase a fast-rising band with supreme mastery of dynamics going hand in hand with their aggression.

‘The Lucid Collective’ is a definitive statement of intent by one of death metal’s most exciting new bands.

BEYOND MORTAL DREAMS – www.facebook.com/beyondmortaldreams

Since its day of spawning, Beyond Mortal Dreams have sought to deliver its own brand of dark, punishing death metal. Formed originally in 1995, the band has seen itself through many incarnations up until now. With a full line up of Doomsayer – Guitars/vocals, Bloodspawn – Lead Guitar, Ghuul – Bass/vocals, and Maleficus – Drums, 2014 sees Beyond Mortal Dreams once again preparing to return to live performance duty, after several years of operating as a studio band only.

With a full length album and two EP’s under it’s belt, BMD’s brand of brutal, yet at times melodic and atmospheric death metal, is reaching out through the underground with an overwhelmingly positive response. Having been hailed as one of “Australia’s best kept secrets” in the death metal genre, the secret is now out and screaming in the form of the latest 7” EP entitled LAMIA, released in March 2014 by Lavadome Productions and Unholy Prophecies. Beyond Mortal Dreams now prepares for  it’s imminent return to the stage in June for Australia’s Black Conjuration Festival, followed by preparations for a new full length album featuring more of BMD’s dark atmosphere and savagery. Stay tuned for devastation!

BLATANT DISARRAY – www.blatantdisarray.net

Formed in 1999 in Raleigh, North Carolina, Blatant Disarray is a thrash-metal band armed with an arsenal of razor sharp songs that rip through you and a live show that takes you back to the days of head banging and circle pits. The music is heavily based off of the classic Bay Area thrash sound combined with a neo-classical and European metal foundation. Rapid double-time drumming, wicked fast riffs and shredding guitar solos makes Blatant Disarray an absolute feast for thrash-metal fans.

The band’s second full-length album, “The Harbinger” (2014) on Dirt Records features a number of special guest performances including vocals on two tracks by Reed Mullin of Corrosion of Conformity.

Along with releasing 2 EP’s and 2 full-length albums, the band has shared tour dates with many great metal acts including Lamb of God, W.A.S.P., Lacuna Coil, Shadows Fall, Anthrax, Joey Belladonna, Metal Church, Vital Remains, Suffocation, Strapping Young Lad, Daylight Dies, Body Count, Confessor, and recent metal legends Raven, and has also recorded with Grammy nominated producer John Custer.

Blatant Disarray doesn’t try to reinvent or reinterpret the genre, but they do everything to keep the tradition alive and well through their devotion to old-school thrash metal.

BLEEDING UTOPIA – www.bleedingutopia.com

Bleeding Utopia started out as a side project in 2003 and it wasn’t until 2010 that it became a 110% band.

The music is inspired by both the early Swedish Death Metal scene, with that characteristic Gothenburg sound, as well as the more aggressive American style which in the end ties together into a good mix of both the aggressive and melodic aspects that is Bleeding Utopia.

With one album released in October 2012 and the second album is now being released the 30th of April 2014 featuring Kevin Talley (Suffocation, Six Feet Under, Battlecross, Feared and many, many more) on the drums and Jocke Skog behind the production, this will be the best Bleeding Utopia album yet!

CONDEMN THE INFECTED – www.condemntheinfected.com

Condemn The Infected is a death metal band based in College Park, MD. The band formed in 2007 when vocalist/bassist Jeremy Harmon, guitarists Ravi Robinson and Tim Mullaney and drummer Henry Everitt from death metal acts Arioch and Chapter of Decay decided to experiment with the more technical side of extreme music.

Later that year, the band had written some material and began to play shows in the Baltimore and DC areas, and in early 2008 the first 3 song, untitled demo was recorded at Wired Wrists studios in Baltimore.

The following year lead to a series of line up changes, including the departure of their guitarist, Tim, and the addition of bassist Brady Krebs. In the months following, the band joined up with guitarist Gunter Ostendorp of Knossis, and continued writing for their debut album. This venture was short lived, as the band soon parted ways with Gunter and ended up with Chris “Morti” Keller of Mortrid and Putrefaction.

By the end of 2009, Condemn The Infected’s 8 song debut had been written and recording began with Darin Morris (Misery Index, Criminal Element).

After a myriad of delays and complications, recording was put on hold and in early 2011 the band was headed to Mexico for their first tour with Mexican grinders Rottenness. Following their return, the band parted ways with bassist Brady, and Jeremy assumed bass duties in addition to vocals. Recording resumed as well as an increase in the frequency of live performances.

The following 2 years resulted in the departure of longtime guitarist Ravi, the subsequent replacment by Jeff Parcher, and in early 2013, the band returned to Mexico to tour with Rexus (MX) and Mass Murder Messiah (US).

Currently Condemn The Infected is finishing up their first full length record Deny Existence at UMBC studios and the record is slated for DIY release later this year.

With a powerful array of brutal riffs, haunting melodies, blazing guitar solos, earth-shattering drumming, odd time signatures, dizzying bass and commanding vocals, Deny Existence is sure to shred the minds of any fan of Suffocation, Cynic, Gorguts, Death, Morbid Angel, Meshuggah, Decapitated and more.

Condemn The Infected is:

Jeremy Harmon – Vocals, Bass
Chris Keller – Guitar, Vocals
Jeff Parcher – Guitar
Henry Everitt – Drums

CRIPPLE BASTARDS – www.cripple-bastards.com

In being a surviving unit like Cripple Bastards for some 20 odd years, it takes much persistance, perserverance and an undying spirit to wreck yourself, all out with Brutal-Fucking-Grind. Yeah, I said it. I said Brutal, so what. Brutal. That’s the supposed overused adjective that most ‘heavy’ band bios and descriptions overlook nowadays for fear of oversaturation or an unoriginal ‘old school’ repetitiveness. Thats the one word in the dictionary that C.B. should have fucking copywritten a long time ago. It fits them. It defines them. It IS them. Cripple Bastards are indelibly brutal. In all ways; music, violence, artwork, attitude, politics. All born of this represenatitive and passionately destructive word. The mere fact that C.B. even exist confirms they own the goddamn word. C.B. are B-R-U-T-A-L. Understand it now.

Asti. Northern Italy. March 1988. The consolidation of the friendship and the common passion for extreme violence between drummer/vocalist Giulio the Bastard (aged 14) and guitarist Alberto the Crippler (aged 17), both coming from local thrash/punk bands that didn’t fit their tastes and didn’t match their ambitions, spawned the Cripple Bastards. The initial aim of the two youngsters was to keep alive the legendary Italian hardcore spirit of CCM, Negazione, Raw Power, Wretched etc. and to mix it with the fresh extremism of the fastcore / grindcore pioneers releasing records through revolutionary labels like Children of Revolution, Selfish/Japan, Earache, Peaceville and Manic Ears. This original crossover of styles, coupled with the aural viciousness inspired by early noisecore outfits like Seven Minutes Of Nausea, was topped by Giulio’s unique creative approach at lyrical writing focusing on human annihilation and existential decay.

From the early 2 piece line-up (1988-1991), Cripple Bastards gradually added new members (mainly drummers and bass-players, keeping GTB on vocals and ATC on guitar) but had to deal with constant personnel changes until core member Alberto the Crippler definitely abandoned music in 1999, the year the band found the definitive line-up consisting in: Giulio The Bastard (vocals), Schintu The Wretched (bass), Der Kommissar (guitar) and Al Mazzotti (drums).

After 5 successful demotapes and 3 x 7″ ep’s recorded between 1988 and 1993 and distributed through Giulio’s own “E.U. ’91 SerbianLeague” D.I.Y. label, the Cripple Bastards start to build a solid reputation of merciless noise mongers. They gained cult status worldwide by releasing more than 20 EPs / split EPs, 5 full length albums, 3 anthological collection CDs and the “Falafel Grind” tribute CD with 32 international bands covering their most classic tunes.

Cripple Bastards has been constantly hitting the road since 1992 playing all over the world, the current line-up alone played more than 300 shows including three full length tours (Europe 2000, U.S. East Coast 2002 and U.S. West Cost 2003) and appearances in international underground festivals like “Fuck The Commerce” (D), “Obscene Extreme” and “Brutal Assault” (CZ), “Mayland Death Fest” (USA) sharing the stage with acts like Napalm Death, Exodus, Brujeria, Municipal Waste, Suffocation, Pungent Stench, Brutal Truth, Nasum, Ratos de Porão, Extreme Noise Terror, Fear Of God, Varukers and Chaos UK among others.

After unleashing the highly acclaimed split 7s with Eyehategod on Southern Lord Recordings (U.S.A.) and with Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition on Relapse Records (U.S.A.) the Bastards bring to light a huge anthological double DVD called “Blackmails and Assholism” on Obscene Productions (CZ), a 6+ hours monsterwork documenting the band’s entire career.

In 2008 Cripple Bastards celebrate their 20 year anniversary signing with FETO Records, the UK based label owned and operated by Shane Embury (Napalm Death) and Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh), and releasing their 4th full length album “Variante alla Morte”, featuring 24 tracks of hard-thrashing Hate/Grind all sung in Italian, recorded at legendary Studio Fredman (Sweden) with mixing desk extraordinaire Fredrik Nordstrom (At The Gates, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Hammerfall)

From festivals – Brutal Assault 2009 and Obscene Extreme – to frenzied, sweat-drenched club shows with Napalm Death, Municipal Waste, Brutal Truth, Rotten Sound, Haemorrhage and more in promotion of “Variante alla morte”, Cripple Bastards worked hard to get the album into as many ears as possible – releasing a US vinyl pressing on Deep Six, a limited edition double LP on Power It Up and a South American CD edition on Peculio Discos.

Then followed a period of introspection. Releasing a four disc box set, “Age of vandalism” on Selfmadegod Records in summer 2009, collecting all of Cripple Bastards’ demos and pre-vinyl recordings from 1987 to 1993 in a staggering 1,036 songs, and “Frammenti di vita”, a covers album of all ’80s Italian thrash and hardcore classics, from Negazione and Raw Power to Bulldozer and Necrodeath, (suitably released on tour with US crossover thrash legends Wehrmacht), on F.O.A.D. Records/T.V.O.R.

2010 marked the deal with Relapse Records, followed by one split 6″ with Spanish legends Looking For An Answer including unreleased tracks recorded in 2003. The first record released under Relapse Records was “Senza Impronte”, in 2012, a 7″EP with 15 new tracks showing an urging and constant sense of evolution in the band’s sound. The 2008-2012 touring schedule featured insane performances at Neurtic Deathfest, Brutal Assault, Obscene Extreme, Maryland Death Fest and a full headlining Brazilian tour.

Eviscera was forged December of 2010 in the small city of Harrisonburg, Virgina. By August of 2011 they had already released their first full length album “Blood of the Ancients”. Since adding  Josh Roberts (drums) in July 2012, and second guitarist, Andrew Albertson, in December of 2013 they have been touring and working towards a new full length album.

Members of Eviscera have shared the stage with The Faceless, Veil of Maya, Neuraxis, Abigail Williams, Orbs (Feat. members from BTBAM and Cradle of Filth) Darkest Hour, This or the Apocalypse  and many more. Significant influences include At the Gates, Revocation, The Black Dahlia Murder and Lamb of God.

INSENSE – www.insense.no

Insense is something of a well-kept secret in the Norwegian metal scene. While the country is renowned for its Black Metal, Insense has steered away anything remotely close to corpse paint and satan worshipping in monochrome forests. Their sound is all their own. They’ve been compared to everything from Machine Head to Dillinger Escape Plan, from Pantera to Strapping Young Lad, from Slipknot to Meshuggah. The truth is, while of course being huge fans of all the aforementioned, Insense doesn’t sound like any of them.

Insense started out as a technical metal outfit in 1999 and has slowly but surely refined their sound, via a very aggressive second record, to the more modern Insense sound of technically impressive riffs and melodic desperation. In their 15 year life span, the band has toured every nook and cranny of their scandinavian home turf, played with metal titans like In flames, Demon Hunter, The Devin Townsend Project and Ghost, to mention a few. Insense’s live shows are known to be brutal and chaotic, yet performed with surgical precision, and the crowd always get their moneys worth. After a Norwegian Grammy nomination for the last album, Insense presents their fifth installment, De:Evolution. 14 tracks of desperate aggression, with a more mature and even more modern approach.

Maleficent Vigor (pronounced Muh-lef-uh-suhnt Vig-er) basically meaning the strong act of evil within one’s self, is what the band prides themselves on living up to. Whether it be through their music or onstage performance.

Founded in October of 2008 by band leader and drummer Michael Lewis in Los Angeles, California, recruiting of different band members took place. Over time, parting ways with past band members and finding the roots of the band, an uncontrollable monument began construction. As a 4 piece band, the path was carved onwards to seep into the rest of Southern California’s scene to display the true beauty of unrestricted liberty.

Maleficent Vigor came out with an E.P. entitled Novus Ordo Seclorum [Latin for New World Order] (soon to be the name of debut album) which didn’t seem to do the band justice due to time and money restraints. Word began rise of the unruly force, but hungering for much more, the band returned to Black Static Studios more determined than ever.

Groundbreaking, ferocious, evil and harmonious is what debut album Novus Ordo Seclorum validated musically while preaching on a shadowed subject opinionated by many, but never seemingly taken sincerely by the most. Lies within the government and other “higher powers” is what Maleficent Vigor solely takes to heart and is what Novus Ordo Seclorum emphasizes throughout the little pamphlet your holding and the music infiltrating your very core.

The essence of liberation is within Maleficent Vigor and it is within you.

ORDER OF THE DEAD – www.facebook.com/OrderoftheDead

Order of the Dead was formed in 2009 in Rochester NY. Featuring former members of Kalibas, Paths of Possession, Kill the Client and Brutal Truth in their ranks, as well as former members of Rochester NY mainstays Arkhem, Shaithus and Within, the band opted on creating an original sound rather than to retread the footsteps of their previous projects.

Drawing influence from both classic metal bands and current groups, as well as a broad listening palette of genres between the members, Order of the Dead have focused their abilities on song structure and the power of the riff. The band strives to bring the strongest material possible to the discerning metal audience.

Order completed recording a 4 song EP with Micah Etzel of Arrhythmia Studios in Rochester NY, and will be playing shows throughout the North Eastern US in 2014. You can find shows, merchandise and general information at the links below.

Pyrrhon (pronounced “peer-on”) is a death metal band from New York City. They formed in 2008 after a chance meeting on a subway platform, and have been honing their increasingly twisted take on the genre ever since.

Pyrrhon’s debut EP, Fever Kingdoms, was released in October 2010 by The Path Less Traveled records and received consistently laudatory reviews. The EP was recorded and mixed in August 2009 by Dan Pilla at Bad Lab Studios in Tabernacle, NJ and mastered by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Dysrhythmia, Krallice) at The Thousand Caves Studios in Queens, NY.

Pyrrhon released their first full-length album, ‘An Excellent Servant But A Terrible Master,’ in September 2011 via Selfmadegod Records. The album is a nightmarish blend of clanging death metal with surreal psychedelic elements, jazz rhythms, and delirious storytelling. The album was again engineered by Pilla and mastered by Marsto. The cover art and layout were created by Caroline Harrison. The album received glowing praise from mainstay media outlets such as Decibel, Terrorizer, Invisible Oranges, and MetalSucks.

Over the ensuing two years, Pyrrhon logged hundreds of hours in their practice space, laboring feverishly over their sophomore record. They emerged from this lengthy gestation period with ‘The Mother of Virtues,’ a daring epic that expands radically upon the multifaceted sound established by the band’s first LP. The Mother of Virtues was tracked and mixed by Ryan Jones (Today is the Day, Mutilation Rites, Wetnurse); Marston returned once more to mastering duties. Upon hearing The Mother of Virtues, groundbreaking metal label Relapse Records signed Pyrrhon to a multi-album deal. The album will see a worldwide release in 2014.

Pyrrhon Are:

Dylan DiLella – Guitar
Erik Malave – Bass
Alex Cohen – Drums
Doug Moore – Vocals
