My name is Bjoern Dugstad Roennow, I was born in Oslo, Norway in 1990. I actually have been playing drums in some form for as long as I can remember. I got my first drumsticks for my 4th birthday, after trashing my parent’s fondue forks and other kitchen equipment for a good year already.
In the following years, I spent a lot of time banging on pots and pans to my parent’s record collection.
Mostly jazz, but there were a couple of Queen and Pink Floyd records in there too. I had a deal with my parents that I could have a drum kit in the house if I managed to save up the money myself, and at the age of 12, I finally found a used drum kit in the local newspaper that I could afford.
The following years I spent most of my free time just playing for hours on end, trying to learn every rock song I could find. At 16 I enrolled at a music college and spent the next three years learning theory and lots of different genres. At this point I had just discovered Slipknot and was completely obsessed with metal, so attending music college was probably a very good thing, since it forced me to learn other styles of drumming as well. However, when you get hooked on heavy music and metal drumming it’s not easy to let go, so I always kept that as my main focus.
I always wanted to play as much as possible, with as many different and skilled people as I possibly could,
and after I finished college that’s pretty much what I’ve been trying to do. I basically have tried saying yes to every opportunity that has come my way, and very often one thing leads to another. So after many years with ups and downs, packed venues and half-empty bars, fancy night liners, and sleepless nights on trains and in airports, I’ve been very lucky to end up playing with some 1st class bands.
Throughout my career I’ve played drums live and recorded albums with: TrollfesT, Borknagar, Cadaver, Sevenfield, Trail of Tears, Viper Solfa, Fight the Fight, Sphere, Profane Burial, and Ubudn Gjest to name a few. Currently, I spend most of my time playing with TrollfesT, Borknagar, and Cadaver.
