I was born in Madison, Wisconsin on august 20th 1986. I was given his first drum set by my Grandparents Mary and Lee Hutson on my 14th birthday. My Freshman year of high school I teamed up with my friend Alex Linden to start our first band “Charred Remains.” Playing only a few shows and a talent show at our high school the band ended and Only To Remain formed. Playing many shows in the Wisconsin area, and a week long tour with ARSIS. Our band constantly gained and lost members. Finally getting a solid lineup and a name change An End To Flesh was formed. Also playing numerous shows including a week tour with Faux Lament, a week tour with Veil Of Maya and a month long summer tour with Torch The Morgue along with recording a 5 song EP released on Coherent Records.
I never learned how to actually play drums (I just hit them hard and fast) so my goal in life is to become a real drummer who can play any style. I’m taking courses online and learning more and more techniques along with learning from just listening to music and watching bands play.
I never EVER thought drumming would take me all around the U.S. and hopefully the world, Ive played in front of SO many people and have met some amazing drummers along the way. I hope that somehow I have encouraged some kids to start bands, I hear a lot how good of a drummer I am, and it makes me feel really weird. I’m not the kind of person to act or pretend to be better than someone. So having huge fans I don’t know is a bit surreal. Coady Hutson Interview:
Coady: I started when I was 15, me and our guitar player alex were freshman in Highschool and we decided to start a band. I got a crappy set from a kid we went to school with for $200.00 and we started jammin in my Grandparents basemenet hahaha.
SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?
Coady: Unfortunatly No, But I REALLY wish I did…
SD.com: Ever take any lessons?
Coady: I started taking lessons at a drum store in madison, and the guy was really cool, and I had like 3 lessons and he got a job at a new store so I quit taking lessons. I might get back into them when I get time.
SD.com: Who are your top 5 influences?

SD.com: Assuming that influences doesn’t mean favorites, who are your favorites?
Coady: My favorite drummer to watch is my friend Sam from Veil Of Maya. I dont really get to see a lot of BIG band drummers, but we got to tour with veil of maya and we became friends and he’s always making me push myself and he makes me wanna be a better drummer. Also Vinnie Paul I got to see pantera twice and each time he would hit his kick it felt like I was being punched in the chest!

Coady: I dont usually listen to a lot of metal so right now in my truck I have:
SD.com: Can you remember a night you think was your best playing ever? If yes, when and where?
Coady: There were a few nights where I could honestly say I played at my peak. One was in Moline Il, at Cara’s Studio. It was our good friends Torch The Morgue’s last show. There were about 300 kids in this small venue in September. The humidity was AWFUL! But all the kids there seemed to like us and tons of kids watched me play and made funny hand gestures like they were playing along and blasting(one kid even came up and hit my cymbal…I dont know why. It was just a TON of energy from the crowd. Good Times..
SD.com: Do you have a favorite brand of drums or cymbals?
Coady: I’ve only had 2 drum sets in my life, but i really like my Pacific CX kit. I got a sweet deal from guitar center. I also use a 12×5 porkpie snare which i like a lot. I can’t have a 14″ snare between my legs, too much power I guess. And for cymbals, I usually use zildjian z custom crashes, wuhan chinas, and my high hat and ride cymbals are b8 sabians…they have lasted my whole drumming career, so I can’t complain.
SD.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Coady: Uhh not really. I’m usually wandering around before show, talking to people or exploring where I am. I don’t usually have actual rituals…unless you consider sacrificing a virgin before we play? Drinking citrus flavored vitamin water is also a must.
SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…
Coady: All I can say is have fun with whatever you do. Be it drumming or playing basketball or anything. If you’re not having fun, it’s not worth doing.
SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?
Coady: Defiinatly pantera…without a doubt
SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?
Coady: I would be a graphic artist with a REAL career…making money would be nice.
