My name is Seth Powell and I am from Cullman, Alabama. Ever since I can remember, I have always listened to the drums in songs, and that's what struck my interest in drumming. I purchased my first kit when I was 17 years old, and have been playing for almost nine years now.

I have always been fascinated with metal drumming, and about a year ago, I started playing death metal style. I play in a progressive death metal band named Misery Chastain. Death metal isn't the only style I enjoy playing, although it is what gets my attention the most. I enjoying playing jazz and funk and just about any other style as well. Drums have always been a love of mine, and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon.

SDM: Let us know 5 CD's that are in your current rotation

Seth: The new Faceless, the new All Shall Perish, the new Suffocation, Black Dahlia Murder, and Pantera, of course.

SDM: What do you do to warm up before a show?

Seth: I usually warm up my hands with single-stroke rolls and run my feet for a few minutes to get my legs loose. I always stretch, too.

SDM: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?

Seth: Yes. I was taught to read drum music by my drum teacher, Quentin Roddy. It is the best thing a drummer can do. Being able to read has definitely helped my playing, and I wouldn't know half the stuff I do if I didn't learn how to read.

Seth: King's X

SDM: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?
