I started drumming in 4th grade in the music class. I bought a practice pad and practiced on only that for a couple years just practicing your standard rudiments and whatnot. At around 6th grade I got my first drum kit and got hooked. I tried playing along to all the songs from the bands I listened to at the time, this included primus, judas priest, iron maiden, ect. I continued to play in the school concert band until 10th grade when I quit due to a school switch.
When I was around 16 I got asked to join a hardcore band out of CT. We played your local venues and got a little fan base until I went the Hartford Conservatory for recording at around 18. I was in and out of a bunch of non-serious bands for that time but when there, I studied jazz and funk which helped out with my playing. At 19 me and my friends formed Corpse Pounding (now known as Morgirion) and it became something to help push my limits and expand my speed and endurance.Im now 21 so Morgirion has been something I would like to stick with. Ive been working on speed style drumming for a few years now and am constantly learning new things.

Matt Jambard Interview:
SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?
Matt: 10 years old.
SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?
Matt: Yup, I played snare drum, bass drum, and the quads in the middle/high school marching/concert band.
SD.com: Who are your top 5 metal influences?
Matt: Derek Roddy, Flo Mounier,Nick Barker,Richard Christy, and Hellhammer.
SD.com: Who are some other of your favorites?
Matt: John Bonham, JoJo Mayer, John Blackwell,Vinnie Colaiuta,Dave weckl.
SD.com: Let us know 5 CD’s that are in your current rotation
Matt: Cryptopsy-None so vile. Dark Funeral-Attera Tortus Sanctus. Meshuggah-Obzen. Decapitated-Organic hallucinosis. 1349-Hellfire
SD.com: What do you do to warm up before a show?
Matt: Stretch my arms, legs, roll my neck, crack my back and practice 16ths using wrist, fingers, and ankles.
SD.com: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?
Matt: Yes I even physically write music sometimes. This helps out greatly because I can come up with “custom” exercises to practice when I get bored of the same old stuff.
SD.com: Can you tell us about the gear you use?
Matt: I use pearl drums (currently a discontinued pearl session srx), zildjian cymbals, gibraltar rack, pork pie snare, iron cobra double pedal and very comfortable roc-n-soc throne.
SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…
Matt: Practice and practice and then you might want to practice some more. Start off “small” and work your way up.
SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?
Matt: Vader was a real treat. They are so tight and brutal live I can still feel the evil that forced its way into my ears that day.haha
SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?
Matt: I would continue with my recording. Its always a good feeling to help out a local band with a good sound at a low cost because studio prices are sometimes just ridiculous. Also ive actually always wanted to open up a venue with an awesome bar and nothing but good metal playing the whole time….someday.
