To sum up my drumming history, I started when I was 11 years old and I immediately fell in love with it. I'd practice for hours each day and about 4 years in I was practicing till I basically passed out, because I wanted everything to be as perfect as possible. Around that time is when I heard about the WFD and Sick Drummer Magazine, from that moment I knew I wanted to be in Sick Drummer Magazine and be the World's Fastest Drummer, so this is a dream come true. I didn't start doing this because I want to be rich and famous nor do I try to now, I do it because I love it and for no other reason. Music is my life and has given me so much in return and blessing. I've devoted a huge part of my life to drums from day one and will never stop. Love the music and do it for no other reason!

Fernando Lemus Interview:
SDM: How old were you when you started playing?
Fernando: I started playing drums and various other instruments when I was 11, I just turned 18 in January!
SDM: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?
Fernando: I've only taken one drum related class and I ended up teaching the beginning-intermediate drummers, aside from that I've been self taught from the beginning.
SDM: Who are your top 5 metal influences?
Fernando: It's hard to narrow it down but I'd have to say Derek Roddy, George Kollias, Tim Yeung, Shannon Larkin and Mike Portnoy in no particular order.
SDM: Who are some other of your favorites?
Fernando: Buddy rich, John Bonham, Jojo Mayer, Inferno, Benny Greb, Chris Adler, Thomas Haake and Jonathan Gonzales just to name a few.
SDM: Let us know 5 CD's that are in your current rotation
Fernando: I only own two CD's, The Offspring Americana and Metallica's S&M haha But Molotov Solution, Fallujah, Nile, Divine Heresy and Lamb Of God are played regularly over everything else in my library.
SDM: What do you do to warm up before a show?
Fernando: I typically just take a metronome and my practice pad and warm up with 16th's singles with both hands until i hit about 280 bpm, I never really warm up my feet before a show, just stretch them.
SDM: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?
Fernando: I do read music somewhat and I believe it helps you, not just as a drummer but as a musician, read a piece and gives you the ability to play it without having to hear it.
SDM: Can you tell us about the gear you use?
Fernando:
Drums: I've always been a DW guy, but the price range has kept me from getting one, so I'm currently using
PDP X7 in Silver to black fade with an additional kick. Two single Axis DRA-21's with E-kits, DW 8×14 Stainless steel snare, Pearl Icon rack and DW Hardware.
Heads:
Remo Coated Emperors on the toms and Pinstripes on reso's
Remo Controlled sound X/Powerstroke 3 on snare batter with diplomat on reso

SDM: If you could give one piece of advice to younger drummers than you, it would be…
Fernando: Practice and practice hard. There are no short cuts or gear that can magically make you better. It's all handwork there's no way around it. If you really want to be able to do something or accomplish something then don't stop until you do. The only thing in the way of achieving it is yourself.
SDM: Who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?
Fernando: It's hard to choose but It would have to be a tie between Shannon Larkin of Godsmack when they were on tour with Rob Zombie a few years ago and Inferno Of Behemoth when they were on Mayhem, both gave great performances and the tones and sound of there kit sounded great.
SDM: Aside from drumming, what else do you like to do?
Fernando: I'm the owner of a local studio here in town Fallen Studios so record local artists in my free time and I play for the band Silence The Messenger so I'm always writing, recording and playing shows with them! Don't really do much else haha.
