My name is Brett Henderson,Im 22 and I live in Melbourne Australia. Im currently playing in a metal band called Anarchsphere,which I devote most of my time to.We have released two cds,one being a demo in late 2005 and the other a sampler in mid 2006, we will be recording an album in early to mid 2007 which includes the original sampler. The band are currently making an impact on the Australian metal scene and are frequently gigging.

I began playing the drums when I was 15 after my dad bought a kit home for my brother Lee,and myself. Lee quickly picked up the basics and improved day by day. I was terrible on the drums, but my passion for them made me want to do even better than him. Being so young, drum lessons didn’t phase me so I taught myself with many ours of hours of practice ,also by listening to drummers in heavy metal bands, such as Igor Cavalera of Sepultura and Raymond Herrera of Fear Factory, picking up their techniques and skills, helped me to shape my playing. So far in my career: Finalist in the Billy Hyde’s State (WFD) Worlds Fastest Drummer- Battle of the hands 3 rd place at Drumteks Competition – Fast and Furious Feet Offers to be a session drummer with various bands. My aim is to learn as many styles of drumming as I can and to be the best of my ability.

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Brett: I was 15 when I started playing drums.

 

 

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Brett: No,I wasn’t serious enough about playing drums at that time,until after I finished school.

 

 

SD.com: Ever take any lessons?

Brett: Nah,not to date,but looking into it for sure.

 

 

 

 

SD.com: Who are your top 5 influences?

SD.com: Can you remember a night you think was your best playing ever? If yes, when and where?

Brett: I consider each performance is as good as the next, as I play to the best of my ability. I try to play as consistent and tight, with the band, as I can. Each gig is equally important.

 

 

SD.com: Do you have a favorite brand of drums or cymbals?

Brett: I would have to say pearl drums,I really like the sound they produce and the finishes that they come out with. My favourite cymbals would be a toss up between Zildjian and sabian.

 

 

SD.com: Do you have any pre-show rituals?

Brett: Yeah,I usually try to stretch out the body for at least 5 – 10 minutes and warm up the wrists and legs before each show, don’t want to cramp up during the gig.

 

 

 

 

SD.com: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

Brett: Fit in as many hours in the day of practice you can.

 

 

SD.com: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?

Brett: Theres a drummer named Tony Royster jnr. I saw a clip of him doing a drum solo when he was 12, hes a freak to be playing like that at such a young age.

 

 

SD.com: If you had to stop drumming, what would you want to do with your life?

Brett: I don’t even want to think about it.
