Andy Taylor

I began playing the drums in fifth grade when i played a bell kit(gay, i know).  I moved onto the snare in sixth grade and stuck with that for 3 years.  In 7th and 8th grade i held my first chair in the percussion section at my middle school.  During the summer of 7th grade i got a drum set for my birthday.  Shortly after i got into partying and playing metal music and really didnt care for school music anymore.

In the summer after ninth grade me and my friends started a band and called it diskreet. That version of the band only lasted about six months and most of the members but me and my friend anthony quit. Me and anthony formed another version of diskreet which lasted about a year.  Anthony quit and we once again scrapped the songs and started over with a new guitarist gerren andres. This is when the diskreet you hear today really got started.  We had two singers and had an entire set for about a year when we decided to lose the two singer thing and take a different approach.  We wrote new songs and recorded and began playing many many live shows. We have lost members and gained members but this diskreet has been going on since somewhere in 2001. We kept on truckin on and here we are today. Call it what you want.

In November of 05′ I toured England with the Colorado death meatal band, skinned. I also spent two months summer of 06 in Los Angeles with the band, The faceless, playing drums and sessioning on their album, akeldama.  I recorded drums on tracks 2 and 5.  I also recently turned down drumming for Job For A Cowboy, to pursue Diskreet.

Andy Taylor Interview:

SD.com: You are gearing up for a Euro tour with Necrophagist, Misery Index and Cold Worker. Are you doing anything different to prepare? What are you looking forward to the most about the tour?

Andy: First, coldworker dropped off.  I’m not sure yet who’s filling the spot.  I am extremely excited.  I mean come on now, what the fuck.  Me a guy from kansas.  I have some serious motivation now.  After six years of nothing, you kind of feel like it’s all for nothing.  It’s like a new wind. We are practicing as much as possible and trying to write new songs to play while we’re there.  I am looking forward to seeing the world and getting better at the drums while i do it.

SD.com: How old were you when you started playing?

Andy: I was about 11 when i picked up the sticks but it wasnt till i was fourteen when the full set and the mayhem began

SD.com: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Andy: I played concert band for years and played marching band for about 4 months in high school.  But like i said partying and metal came into play and it was on from there.

SD.com: Ever take any lessons?

Andy: I learned everything a book could teach you from a drum teacher but i never took set lessons.  I just applied what i knew to the set.  If i had to say i had a set teacher it was korns drummer david silveria.  When i started getting serious i wanted to play everything on korns self titled album “korn” so i spent over a year getting it down till i could play everything.  Then i went to pantera and the ladder grew.
