Trick aluminum shells are formed from our special resonant alloy which was chosen for its pureness of tone, sustain, durability and overall sound. All shells, including bass drums, are fabricated from one ply of an acoustically selected and certified aluminum in a thickness of 1/8" or 3.175mm. Each ply of material which becomes a Trick drum shell is certified from our aluminum mill, guaranteeing the same alloy, hardness and thickness.By using uniform material, our shells separate tonally via their size increments with no other variables. Under optimal conditions, the only thing which should effect the tone from drum to drum is the increase in depth and diameter.
The reasons this does not apply to wood shells is because they're manufactured from numerous plys, differing in hardness and moisture content. Additionally, wood shells are held together with glue, which also has a negative effect on the shells ability to resonate. Trick bearing edges are lathe cut to an exacting double 45 degrees. This allows for superior attack, sensitivity and faster tuning.
Why An Aluminum Shell?
- Aluminum shells provide a much faster response and a more precise projection of sound
- More resonant than wood
- More consistent than wood
- Unaffected by weather conditions
- No plys to separate
- No glue, separate plys or reinforcement hoops to disturb the natural resonance
- Finishes are more durable than paint
- Trick shells provide a much warmer and intensifying tone
Once again, welcome!
