Trynt Kelly - Unmerciful - Wrath Encompassed

I talked a little about my drumming history back in February when Sick Drummer published my play-through of ‘The Incineration’ here. Going further in depth on my playing approach in general and with Unmerciful, my style pulls heavily from old school players with some new school flare – Pete Sandoval, Derek Roddy, George Kollias, Torturer, Dominator, Blood Hammer, Marthyn, John Longstreth, etc. For Unmerciful, I wanted to blend James King’s and John Longstreth’s styles because I love what both of their styles are about. I wanted the straight forward, unrelenting, approach that King had on Unmercifully Beaten. With Longstreth, I wanted to add the increased speed, foot patterns, technicality, creativity, and increased relentlessness of Ravenous Impulse. In general, I wanted this album to live up to the band name and the drummers that came before me. I wanted the drums to be as pummeling and relentless as I could make them.

Founded in 2001, Unmerciful released its debut, “Unmercifully Beaten” in 2006. With intensive tour runs from 2006 through 2009 with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, Decrepit Birth, Cryptopsy and more. Through a few lineup changes within the band, it was put to rest for a few years.

The band was on hiatus from 2009 to 2012, then reformed to start writing the follow-up album. The band recruited John Longstreth (Origin, Dim Mark, Gorguts, etc.) to record the drum for “Ravenous Impulse,” which was huge growth for the band from the previous album. It was also their last album on Unique Leader Records.

Unmerciful is now on Willowtip Records. “Wrath Encompassed” will be unleashed upon the Earth on April 24th, 2020. The new album is darker, faster and more aggressive then anything UNMERCIFUL has released to date!!
