Studio Follow Up From Richard Hoak / Brutal Truth

We asked Richard Hoak to get in touch when he finished tracking the new Brutal Truth album, and give us an update from behind the kit. Here is what he had to say: "I rehearsed  on my own for this recording more so than any other I have done and lucky for Brutal Truthme!  I was able to tracks the drums for 25 songs for about 45 minutes of music in one 10 hour day and then another 2-3 hours the next morning.  So far I've only heard a rough mix with no vocals, but it sounds awesome:  Doug White and Watchmen Studios did a killer job!!   "Evolution Through Revolution"  is the tentative title of the new cd and it is one of the songs you can see us recording in the studio video;  we also did a cover of "Bob Dylan Wrote Propaganda Songs" by The Minutemen and an updated version of Walking CorpseDetached, Sugardaddy and Grind Fidelity are a coupla other songs titles.

I used the same snare drum that I have always used for BT recordings: a Tama "cask" style wood piccolo snare I bought in germany in 1993.  I did put a new head on it for the occasion, hell yeah!   Also, the Trick Pro 1-V double kick drum pedals go wherever I go and you can hear them loud and clear on this recording!!!  Otherwise,  I used the Watchmen studio drumset for kick drum and toms.  It only took a hour or so to tune up the drums and get a killer sound out of them, Doug and I both have done this before a coupla times.  We listened to and chose the best sounding cymbals out of my collection, the studio's house cymbals and the sulaco/kalibas cymbals.  Sometimes we switched in/out certain cymbals to give a bit of a different atmosphere.  I did use a cowbell for one part of one song, hehehe" – Richard Hoak
