The drumming of Simon Pierre Dubé on Potion13‘s “Le Rock ca tue!” is a very solid performance. Potion13 are a heavy metal band from Montreal, Canada and have played numerous shows opening up for David Ellefson of Megadeth and Tim “Ripper” Owens! The drumming goes great with the amazing bass lines from Nathalie Baril. This is true heavy metal done the French way. The killer artwork on the cover was done by the bass player Naty as well. Lots of various time changes in songs such as “Le Rock ca tue!”
The drums accommodate all of the other instruments on this album without being too overpowering and there is no overplaying on this album. “La Chasse Aux Sorcieres” is very heavy with some great drum hooks in it. Simon is not afraid to use double bass drumming throughout the entire album and he adds much depth and insight into Potion13 with well thought out drumming passages in each song.
“Combat Extreme” opens up with a great drum fill that reminds me of something Nick Menza from Megadeth would have created. This song is one of the highlights of the entire album – very thrash-oriented. Mid-paced tempo with lots of double bass drumming. Danielle has great vocal range on this album! With each passing track the songs just get better and better. “Passion 13” is another thrash-oriented song that kicks some major ass. Simon’s drumming compliments both the guitars and bass perfectly. Some say that Potion13 is one of the best bands to ever come out of Quebec. Definitely, something for all you heavy metal heads to check out.
“Les Flames” is indeed one heavy song and makes the drumming sound is just killer. Excellent guitar solos as well! The drums in the slow-paced song “Mirage” add nice flavors of drumming grooves and speak for themselves on this epic track.
Potion13 is indeed a band to look out for in the future. If you like Canadian metal, look no further and check out the drumming of Simon Pierre Dubé!
Way to go girls and guys, classic metal the way it should be played. Can’t wait to hear the next release.
