My name is Pierce Willams, drummer for Aenigmatum and Lividus. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, my interest in drums came at an early age. The start of my musical journey began almost 20 years ago. Taking private drum lessons as a kid, I was taught how to read drum notation, jazz/funk/Latin grooves, expanding creatively around the kit, odd times, and how to “jam.”
My influences range from all of the jazz and funk pioneers (in which there’s too many to name) to the death metal legends Gene Hoglan, John Longstreth, Sean Reinert, Dave Culross, and Derek Roddy to name a few. I got my first taste of death metal when I was 12 years old. I was hooked instantly. Since then I’ve been on a never-ending mission to perfect my craft and be the best drummer that I can be. The fact that there will always be new concepts and techniques for me to learn, that challenge my playing, is the reason I continue doing what I love.
I’ve been very active in the Portland scene since graduating high school, joining my first band shortly after. I’ve played in numerous bands throughout the years, but am currently active drumming with bands ÆNIGMATUM and Lividus, while performing guitar duties for bands Torture Rack, and Lord Gore. I did my first session work recording drums for the Azath debut full length, and am available for more session work. I am excited about future projects with another band that I cannot officially announce just yet, so stay tuned!
In the future, my plans are to continue writing, performing, and recording new music. I am currently in the writing stages for an unnamed solo project. My hopes are to teach more students and inspire a younger generation to pick up a pair of sticks. Some companies I proudly endorse are Scorpion Percussion and Soultone Cymbals.
