Mike Petrov, guitarist for ‘My Autumn’ on some of the latest news in their camp.
We had a difficult time in past half of a year inside of our band. At the end of May, our drummer Mark Mironov decided to join another band and at the beginning of June he moved to Paris and started practice with his new band ‘Betraying The Martyrs’. Luckily, we found a replacement fast! There are a lot of talented musicians in Russia and we’re a really well known band, so we hadn’t much problems with that. The name of our new drummer is Pavel Korchagin.
We started to practice again, but a month later due to different reasons, guitarist Kirill had left the band and other problems followed, so we decided to go on hiatus.
Summer came to the end and we went through our dark time and released ‘Oblivion Era’. Step by step we came to our first show with the new line-up in St Petersburg, Russia on December 12, 2012 with ‘Betraying The Martyrs’. It was a sold out show and we got awesome feedback. At the moment, Kirill got back to the band and we’re getting ready for new tours around Europe, Russia and to record a new EP. We’re still a DIY band, but we’re trying to be a bigger band, not just inside Russia.
Some words from new drummer Pavel Korchagin.
" I’m playing drums for about 5 years now. Since the beginning, I’ve started taking lessons from professional teacher. It helped me grow up really fast and I got correct imagination on basic rhythms. Posing hands is practically the most important in playing drums, thanks a lot to my teacher who spent a lot of time and got ideal posing for me.
After I learned how to play basic rhythms, most of my attention I paid to drummers like Thomas Lang, Jojo Mayer, Jeff Queen, Travis Barker, Derek Roddy, Krimh Kerim and others. I got really impressed by their speed and skill and started to practice more hard, spent most of my free time playing drums. I already played with a few bands, where I’ve got my skills better like technics, speed and powerfull kicks. All these bands connected with the Deathcore style. With one of them – Recipient 13 – we toured Russia and played shows with Cannibal Corpse and Suicide Silence.
The offer to join ‘My Autumn’ on drums was a big surprise for me and it became an incentive to be a better drummer. The previous drummer – Mark is quite a famous guy now and it’s not a surprise, because drum parts in ‘My Autumn’ aren’t just a simple line like d-beat\blast-beat, it’s progressive and really hard parts, that aren't so easy. I spent my summer practicing drums and I grew up. I’m happy about it.
At the moment I’m a teacher at the St. Petersburg Extreme Music School, playing drums for ‘Taking Your Last Chance’ and spent a lot of my time at the practice room with ‘My Autumn’ composing new songs".
