Justin Gogan is a progressive metal drummer who brings energy and precision to every performance. Formed in 2019 and based in New York, Kallias forge a sound at the intersection of progressive metal, death metal, and cinematic composition. Their sophomore full-length Digital Plague (August 14, 2025) stretches across 44 minutes of music that balances crushing rhythms with orchestral swells, ambient passages, and intricate melodic themes.
The band’s lineup, Nicole Papastavrou (guitar, harsh vocals), Chris Marrone (bass, clean vocals), Erik Ryde (lead guitar), and Justin Gogan (drums), reflects its strongest incarnation yet.
Nicole produced the album and composed the majority of the record, with Erik contributing songwriting on “Null Space” and “Shadow Entity.” Erik and Justin also mark the newest additions to the band.
Mixed and mastered by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Archspire), Digital Plague showcases Kallias’ evolving vision: a relentless yet atmospheric fusion influenced by Meshuggah, Ihsahn, Opeth, and Rivers of Nihil. Guest appearances include Chaney Crabb (Entheos) and Ian Waye (Soreption).
Kallias remain fully independent, building their career through grassroots support and community. Their debut full-length First Ascent (2023) was entirely crowdfunded, following their national introduction on Hit Parader’s No Cover (Season 1, 2021). The band has also collaborated with acclaimed guests such as Jeff Loomis (Arch Enemy, Nevermore) on First Ascent and Ole Børud (Extol) on their standalone single Mouthless Embassy.
