Colorado’s Allegaeon (uh-lee-juhn) has joined forces with Metal Blade Records! Formed in early-summer 2008, their 2008 EP was produced by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Martriden, Cobalt). With only 4 songs, Allegaeon managed to captivate an entire new legion of dedicated supporters worldwide and with a live show that is as engaging as any, are sure to win over many more fans to come.
The band comments: “We all are super stoked to be a part of this legendary label. Metal Blade to us is the past, present and future of metal. With new tunes that will be equally crushing and catchy, we look forward to producing an album that will most definitely turn heads."
SDM: Jordon, Congrats on the signing with Metal Blade Records! What other bands can do, to get to where you are?
Jordon: Well, putting out the EP helped a lot! We have been around since the beginning of 2008 playing a ton of shows and trying to spread our stuff around as much as possible. Just keep at it and try to get yourself heard as often as possible.
SDM: You have been on our site since February 2007, competed in our Blast Off Competition and other promotions I ran with Allegaeon. What can you say about SickDrummer?
Jordon: It definitely helps to have a site like SickDrummer! Almost all of my metal playing has been self taught with the help of the internet. Watching other amazing metal drummers always helps.
SDM: Your drumming is outstanding and has been obviously improving over the years. What kinds of things have you focused on over the past year, that you feel have been crucial to your advancement as a player?
Jordon: I have been focusing a lot on dynamics and making the drums sound the way I want them to. Also trying to be diverse in different styles gives me new ideas. Just playing a lot in general and playing out with the band will improve anyone.
SDM: I see you are offering lessons from the band MySpace page. What kinds of things are important to you, that you try to teach your students?
Jordon: I try to make sure everyone has a good foundation. Everyone wants to know how to play fast right away, and honestly speed is a far second to solidarity. I have always felt playing in the pocket and having good "feel" is very important, even if your blazing fast.
SDM: Being out in Colorado, have you ever taken any lessons from John Merryman of Cephalic Carnage, or any other instructors?
Jordon: The only lessons I took was when I was first starting out, just getting the basics. I have never had a lesson with John Merryman, but I have seen him play several times and it would be cool to have a lesson with him.
SDM: Any plans for a full-length, and would you work again with Dave Otero?
Jordon: We will be going back to Dave for our full length. It’s called ‘Fragments of Form and Function’ and we are sheduled to begin recording on January 24th.
