To celebrate and honor the 10th anniversary of the passing of Chuck Schuldiner, we have decided to release the first video from Sick Drummer Camp 2011. This video is Gene Hoglan performing Crystal Mountain, from Death's legendary album "Symbolic". This was after Gene's main theater performance at the camp and during his question and answer session. Gene asked the campers to yell out an old Death track, and the first one to do so was Stephen Handler of Colorado. Without even flinching, Gene said ok, I'll give it a shot and did exactly that. This was all done from memory and is the first time Gene has even attempted this song in 15 years. It was not practiced and there was no backing track or click, it was simply Gene honoring the request of a camper, in an attempt to make the camp an even more personal experience. RIP Chuck… your legend lives on.
Look for the Sick Drummer Camp DVD early 2012.
You can also find Gene, as well as many others, available for live online classes very soon at www.reallesson.com.
