SDM: What is your opinion on the kind of drum stick you use with Nile"? Especially, on the new Nile album. Which is better; heavy or light wood for fast blasts and for being well heard during your fills/rolls on the tom’s?
George: My choice of sticks is the Vic Firth 55A. They are not that heavy, just a little more than regular 5As that I used to play. They are thicker and that helps with my grip but they are not heavy as the 2Bs are for example. It’s a lot easier to play with thicker sticks than thinner ones, but the weight is definitely important and "too much" is not going to work for blastbeats etc.
SDM: Do you change stick size and weight for each different band you play in?
George: Not that much, but I used to. I do use many other Vic Firth models though, when I play lighter music I use light sticks (Steve Gadd models are great) or when I do snare practice I use marching sticks (Thomas Lang model or others).
SDM: What is your current Seat height with the New Nile album?"
George: My legs are pretty much parallel to the ground, or I would say close to parallel. I try to sit as low as possible to increase more power.
Cheers man
George
