Mike Smith of Suffocation Talks About Traveling…

So I just wanted to share a situation with you cats regarding the Airline business and the grief that comes with traveling for a living.

There was a time when the name Mike Smith would make any situation seem as simple as it gets. As far back as I can recall now, no matter where I travel on this earth to perform, when I return home I am immediately stopped and escorted to the back interrogation room. This is where I sit for an hour sometimes two while my band is waiting outside and our transportation home is thoroughly inconvenienced and pissed off.

My unclaimed luggage rides the carousel and eventually becomes part of the next arriving flight. My passport that is jam packed with world travel stamps and entry approval is ignored and black flagged.

If the airlines ever wondered why they should fear hostility and anger, this inconvenience is as good a reason as any. It can get you so beside yourself that beyond the verbal tantrums you throw, smashing and killing or even destroying something seems totally relevant.

The shows we play, places we visit and the experience we take in are priceless and always will be. It’s a real shame that returning home to your birth place (NYC) is the most troublesome and aggravating part of the whole experience.

Next stop Australia. Man, I cant wait for my welcome home after that 20 hour flight. I bet my good earned money that Mike Smith will be taking an extra detour to the interrogation room.
