How Can You Use The Sick Drummer Magazine Website To Your Advantage? Blogging and Video!
BLOGGING:
Blogging is still a great way to attract more attention to yourself, your band, label, gear, merch and whatever else you are promoting, especially when you have a powerful website like ours to publish your blogs for you. We are open to any and all kinds of blogs and would entertain giving any of you your own blog on the site, depending on the frequency and unique content value. Below are some examples of different blog categories we are open to, but there are others we would consider as well. Get in touch if you want to contribute to our blog, or possibly have your own blog and title section on our site! (email – advertise[at]sickdrummermagazine.com)
• Tour Blog: The Tour Blog is for any drummer that is currently out on the road that wants to blog about their experiences while on tour. You can talk about the other drummers and bands on tour, life on the road, tips for touring, performance techniques, etc. This is the simplest blog out of the bunch which anyone can contribute to. Pictures, video of backstage antics, etc… are all added bonuses!
• In Studio Blog: The In Studio blog focuses on specific bands or drummers in the pre-production and recording phases of your new recordings. Any band that is in writing mode or is in the studio can provide a journal of daily activities in the studio and talk about stories about the recording process. This is also the perfect blog for any engineer or producer to share his/her thoughts and tips on drumming or just tell stories from the studio.
• Drum Tech Diary: The Drum Tech Diary is for the professional touring drum techs out there and the daily duties involved in the job. Topics will include setting up kits, micing/triggering, cymbal cleaning, tuning heads, and anything else involving gear or life on the road with an established band and what it takes to work for a band. Daily interactions with other people on the tour and the business side of the game can be discussed as well.
• Drum Teacher Blog: The Drum Teacher blog is a place where drummers who currently give lessons to students can discuss and give advice on how to properly teach. You can tell stories of interactions with your students, problems you run into and how to solve them, the teacher philosophy on how to teach a young student, practice routines, etc…
• Musician Student Blog – The Musician Student Blog is a blog documenting the everyday grind of a music student in college. Young aspiring drummers can use this as a source of inspiration to ultimately attend a music school or take a different direction in life. Either way the music student blog will provide a lot of information on the daily grind involved with going to music school, topics that are covered at the school, what to expect from teachers, what your practice routine looks like and how to achieve optimum success in a music student setting.
VIDEO:
Any video is good video, but exclusive video is better. Our YouTube channel now averages about 12,000 views per day and continues to grow at a steady pace, so now is a great time to get more serious about your video and we can help! Below are a few types of videos we love to see and are happy to promote. If you are able to provide any, please get in touch and we'll talk with you to get it going.
• Play-Through's: Our YouTube Channel gets amazing views! This can help us, you and the scene in general continue to grow. Stay involved and send us a decent quality play-through video once in a while to promote yourself, the band and any new releases. This will also be great in the eyes of your endorsing companies and record label. The only thing we ask is that any video you record for SDM be exclusive and not posted anywhere else, at least for the first couple weeks we are promoting it.
• Lessons: Same as a play-through's, but lessons get more hits! We are open to receive lessons of any kind for promotion on our site and socials. If you are able to record one, two or more short lesson videos in a series, we would gladly talk with you about running them as exclusive. If you are able to provide drum notation to accompany the video, that's even better and will get you more views over time.
• Gear Reviews: Do you have a new piece of gear from your endorsing company or just purchased it for yourself? Why not film a short demonstration and review of the gear and send it to us for promotion? If you don't have any endorsements yet, doing things like this will surely help you on the road to being endorsed! Readers love honest gear reviews and so do we.
• Studio Previews: Are you tracking a new record? Take some video of your kit, explain the gear, talk about the technology you are using to record, the settings, mics, anything! Film some short segments of a song or two and even walk us around the studio for a short tour, we're guessing your studio owner won't mind the extra promotion either. Short studio preview videos do very well and also serve as a great (FREE) way to promote your release, long before it comes out.
There are a million ways to promote and we are open to hear any ideas you may have…
