Somedrummersgetnewand different ideas by listening to music outside of the genre they play in, and we think that’s agreatthing. Learningfromandlistening to many different styles of music can only improveyouraproach... Yes,Iwaslistening to the new Entheos as I designed this article :)Dobber Beverly - Oceans of Slumber:Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss: One of the darkest records I’ve heard in a long while. Incredible mix of Acid Bath and Lera Lynn. Sludge, electronics, blues, and depression.Riverside - Love Fear and the Time Machine: Beautiful record from the Polish masters of dark progressive rock. Like an Eastern European Pink Floyd with modern elaboration and more complex progressions and meters. My Dying Bride - Songs of Darkness, Words of Light: Soul crushing doom and despair mixed with an English take on southern style riffing. My Wine In Silence is a huge highlight for me.Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel: Raging musicianship. Excellent songwriting. Such a phenomenal live band and Dan Presland is a solid mofo on drums.Samael - Ceremony of Opposites: Top 3 release of all time and the record that taught me to drum. Very carnal and perversely sexual to my ears.A real deal vibe that bands don’t deliver very often these days. This is the real thing. Amazing production too.Matt Thompson - King Diamond:Cattle Decapitation - The AnthropoceneExtinction: Because wow!Ghost - Meliora: I know people are divided on Ghost, but not me. This album is gorgeous.Xerath “II”: This is my favorite of the 3 Xerath albums, and it is amazing.ShaolinDeathSquad-Demos:Wehavea crap-load of new music to learn.Yes - Relayer: Because I’m an old fart.14
