I Started playing in 1995 with a Doom Metal band called Sleeping Myth for a couple of years, then went on to form a Death Metal band called Liquified Skeleton and relesed 2 demos over 3 years. After that I joined a Progresive Metal band called Gridlock Takedown, and worked hard for 3 years on a full length album that was never relesed. In 2007 I joined Fleshrot, and so far have relesed 3 recordings and played both European and American festivals. Currentley working on the next Fleshrot album in the UK.

Matt Doubleday Interview:

SDM: How old were you when you started playing?

Matt: I was 14 or 15

SDM: Did you play in a school band or any drum corps?

Matt: I played with the only 2 other metal heads in my school in the music rooms!

SDM: Who are your top 5 metal influences?

Matt: Nick Barker, Tony Laureano, Dave Culross, John Longstreth and Pete Sandoval

SDM: Who are some other of your favorites?

Matt: Trym and HellHamer! I always enjoy listening to them as well

SDM: Let us know 5 CD’s that are in your current rotation

Matt: Blood Oath (Suffocation), God The Lux (Vesania), Extermination of Millions (Inveracity), Exterminate (Angel Corpse), Pleasure Pave Sewers (Lock-Up)

SDM: What do you do to warm up before a show?

Matt: Drink a Redbull, give the wrists and ankles a shake and I’m good to go!

SDM: Do you read music? Regardless of answering yes or no, please tell us how it might have effected your playing?

Matt: No, I guess it could have held me back when all I wanted to do was just play hard and fast! I probably don’t have the patience to learn!

SDM: Can you tell us about the gear you use?

Matt: I use Sabian Hand Hammered cymbals, Pearl Export drums, Iron Cobra Pedals and a Gibralter hardware rack system. Ddrum triggers with a Roland brain.

SDM: If you could give one piece of advice to young drummers, it would be…

Matt: Don’t run before you can walk! It’s a good idea to be able to play rock beats, well before you start playing blasts and double kick patterns. It’s important to listen to the masters of extreme drumming and their early recordings, to see how they progressed over the years.

SDM: Who gave the best live performance you’ve ever seen?

Matt: Nick Barker on his first UK show with Dimmu Borgir, it was fucking devistating!

SDM: Aside from drumming, what else do you like to do?

Matt: Keep fit, play football and traveling, seeing as many new places as I can.
