Studio Tips:

The Shells in combination with the heads only sound good in a certain range of tuning. So don’t try to tune them out of this range. That also means that you should have different snare drums at the recordings to try out the best one. It’s also useful to pay some attention to the opinion of the producer because he’s less involved at that point of time, he often can judge best which one is the “right” tuning, the “right” snare and so on. Also you should start playing the heads some days before recording to stretch them a bit to get the best possible sound on tape.
